We make them visible.
- No hidden costs. The full move-in cost is on the listing before you apply. Admin fees are illegal under the Tenant Fees Act, and we’ve built that rule in.
- Your deposit, protected. Deposits go into a government-approved scheme and the proof lands in the app. It’s the law — we make it visible.
- The deadlines, watched. The app tracks the holding-deposit and deposit-protection clocks. If one passes, you’re told exactly what you’re owed.
- Everything in writing. Messages, agreements, receipts and certificates in one record. If it matters later, you’ll be able to find it.
- Checked landlords. Every landlord proves ownership and identity before a listing can go live.
The short answers.
Is Staylo free for tenants?
Yes. Searching, applying, signing and messaging are free for tenants. Admin fees are illegal under the Tenant Fees Act, and we’ve built that rule into the product.
How much is the holding deposit?
One week’s rent, capped by the Tenant Fees Act. If the tenancy goes ahead it’s credited against your first month’s rent. If the landlord withdraws or the deadline passes, you’re refunded within 7 days.
How is my deposit protected?
Your landlord must protect the deposit in a government-approved scheme within the statutory timescale. Staylo doesn’t hold the deposit — the app records the scheme details, shows you the proof and reminds the landlord as the deadline approaches.
Who handles the money?
Payments are processed by Stripe. Holding deposits and move-in monies go to the landlord’s account with a full audit trail. Staylo never holds your money.
